A freight train hit a semi that drove into its path at East Marginal Way South and South Spokane Street on Wednesday afternoon. Nobody was injured in the collision, in which a train broadsided a tractor-trailer that had driven into its path. Flashing lights and warning devices were in use at the railway crossing, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas. The train, which was en route to the railroad’s nearby Stacy Street yard, was traveling 5 mph and the crew sounded the train’s horn and used an emergency brake but couldn’t avoid colliding with the eastbound truck, he said. The train hit the truck’s trailer, tipping over both the trailer and rig and pushing them about 75 yards; a Volvo was then struck by the tipped-over truck, Melonas said.
