Vikings Cornerback Fred Smoot in Car Accident

Comments Off

Vikings cornerback Fred Smoot will miss the last game of the season due to a broken jaw in five places from a recent car accident.

The single car crash, first revealed by Coach Brad Childress at his new conference, happened in Smoot’s hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson Police Officer Lee Vance said that the crash occurred early Saturday morning. He said Smoot was in the backseat of the 2007 Rolls-Royce when the 26-year old driver, Percy Donalson, lost control of the car and struck a guardrail.

Smoot’s agent, Bus Cook, said his client was out of the hospital and should be ready to resume football activities after recovery time of at least a month. According to Cook, Donalson lost control while trying to avoid another vehicle that had swerved in front of them. Cook said he did not believe Smoot was wearing a seat belt, adding that nobody involved was seriously hurt.

Smoot, 27, whose interception return was Minnesota’s only touchdown at Green Bay, has exchanged text messages with Childress, but is unable to speak following the surgery.
